The seeds i have are up and growing. I have confidence they will develop into a great source of new seeds to pass along and enjoy. They are extremely small and difficult to handle - if you want a hundred, you may want to purchase four packs to make sure you have enough seeds. They are as tiny as a speck. They seem to be very strong and hardy and even though i had a very hard time seeing if the seeds in my hand went into the
soil pockets- every pocket except two has at least one basil growing-but that was about 18 soil pockets for a hundred seeds. Part of this is to teach my child while he is young that he can grow plants and that some have a purpose to our bodies and earth. It doesnt take a huge amount of land to grow herbs and even a large pot will work for basil. We will make tea from these seeds and hopefully when he is older he will have a knowledge of creating from seeds.

KitchenAid Red Salad and Fruit Spinner Review

KitchenAid Red Salad and Fruit Spinner

A passionate home cook that has been honing her cooking skills for the last 25 years writes this review. My favorite cookbooks are "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute and "Culinary Artistry". I love to cook and I prepare three meals a day most days of the month.
My husband and I embarked on a mostly vegan lifestyle about 3 months ago and I decided that I needed a larger salad spinner. I purchased this salad spinner to replace a smaller one that is battery operated that I have been using for at least 15 years.
Pros:
1.The rubber bottom on this spinner keeps it in place on the counter while you are using it. This is a big improvement over the standard spinners.
2.The large capacity is also very nice if you eat a lot of vegetation.
3.The pump is easy to use provided that you remember not to push all the way to the bottom of the stroke with causes it to lock. This takes a little getting used to, but you will get the hang of it eventually.
4.The pump mechanism should be less susceptible to breakage than the string models. I have heard from others that the pull mechanism is prone to breakage on the pull models.
5.It removes as much water from the produce as my battery operated salad spinner.
Cons:
1.I can't remove the center stem on the basket no matter what I try. I think that this is a design flaw.
2.The spinner is a little awkward to clean with the center stem in place.
Overall, I think this product is middle of the road, not great but not terrible either. I like having the extra capacity, but I would be much happier if I could get the stem out of the basket to facilitate cleaning the thing.

Jiffy 5048 36-Plant Pellet Refill Review

Jiffy 5048 36-Plant Pellet Refill

I thought I was ordering the larger peat pellets more suitable for tomato and bean seeds. Instead, these are the smaller ones more suitable for smaller seeds, measuring around 1.5" across. But that is OK because these work great for germination sets and later transplants and I use smaller sizes, too. When these are saturated with water the peat inside the mesh holds for the duration of the root growing period.
I use aluminum baking pans with clear plastic lids as mini greenhouses. These are a lot cheaper than those plastic germination sets for sale everywhere.
This product is made in Canada.

AeroGrow AeroGarden 3 Review

AeroGrow AeroGarden 3

Purchased this for my Mom as a birthday gift. The basil grows extremely well and produces an abundant supply. The chives are barely growing at all, and if you are only going to have 3 types of herbs, there are plenty of other more popular herbs they could have picked besides thyme.
Unlike the larger aerogardens, this one has been simplified and does not have different plant growing settings (lettuce, herbs, etc.). It also seems to be noisier than my Aerogarden classic (7 hole).
If you can afford the classic aerogarden with 6 or 7 holes, I would go with it. This model seems overpriced for how limited it is both by its 3 hole size and stripped down features.

Good Morning America calls the AeroGrow AeroGarden, "One of the top new consumer products." The AeroGarden 3 lets you grow abundant herbs, greens, or vegetables for your family 365 days a year in the comfort of your kitchen. No gardening experience or even dirt is necessary. It\'s a mess-free, user-friendly, low-maintenance process that you don\'t need a green thumb to use. About the size of an everyday coffee maker, the AeroGarden 3 rests on your kitchen counter and fits into your décor. The AeroGarden 3 uses NASA-tested aeroponic technology to grow plants in water, nutrients, and air. Aeroponics is a dirt-free growing method in which plant roots are suspended in air within a highly oxygenated growing chamber with 100% humidity. The roots are bathed in ideal levels of nutrients, oxygen, and water, allowing the plants to grow significantly faster, become healthier, and have a higher nutrient content that plants grown in soil. With 3 pods in which to grow food, the Advanced Growing System with computerized Adaptive Growth Intelligence uses high-efficiency lighting and a quiet, low-maintenance chamber that provides more oxygen to the roots. All you have to do is add water, drop in the pre-seeded grow plugs, turn on the AeroGarden 3, and watch the plants grow in the 3 pods. The grow lights turn on and off automatically, and the computer reminds you via LCD display when to add water and nutrients. You can achieve up to 30% more plant growth. All plants are organically based and 100% natural. A Gourmet Herb Seed Kit and a grow bulb are included. The AeroGarden 3 measures 20 x 9.5 x 11 inches and is covered by a 1-year warranty.

Seeds Kit Complete Garden in a can Review

I wanted to move away from hybrid seeds into open pollinated to start saving my own when I found this kit. The product is well packaged and provides more than enough seeds for a full year of planting in my garden (1/2 acre). Seeds are high quality and very clean, with excellent germination rates. I was sort of skeptical with the price being so low, but I am very pleased with this purchase and would reccomend it to anyone. All of those seeds at that price is a great deal and would be much more expensive if purchased seperately. It isn't packaged for long term seed storage, but I would be confident with storing for 2 years or more in the fridge. I'll be planting these though and harvesting some fresh seeds for next year. The only thing I've bought extra was lima beans and seed potatoes. I believe everything else is covered for this year with seed to spare.
If you are interested in more details to give you an idea of the quantity you get, read on. So far I have planted in the spring garden or greenhouse the following:
All Romain Lettuce seeds 4'x4' area in raised bed.
All Carrot seeds 4'x4' area in raised bed.
All Head Lettuce seeds 4'x8' area in raised bed.
All sweet peas 75' row .
All Raddish 10' of row.
1/2 pack watermelon seeds 12 plants in green house.
1/2 pack cantelope seed 12 plants in green house.
1/2 pack of honeydew melon 12 plants in green house.
1/4 pack bell pepper in green house 8 plants.
1/4 pack of each tomatoe variety. 16 plants in green house.
1/4 pack of cucumber 8 plants in green house.

Shun DM0700 Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife Review

Shun DM0700 Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me first say that the Shun knives, including the 3 1/2 in paring knife, are fantastic. They are the sharpest kitchen knives around and hold an edge very well. The craftsmanship and quality are also extremely good.
However, a $45 paring knife does not make sense unless price is no object for you. You can get a Forschner 3 1/2 inch paring knife (rated number 1 by Cook's Illustrated) for $4.95, a tenth of the cost of this knife. As an owner of both knives, I can say that the Forschner is almost as sharp as the Shun and more comfortable to hold. Certainly the Shun is not 10 times as better as the Forschner.
It should also be noted that the prices on all the Shun knives have gone up after Alton Brown started promoting them. This paring knife was $30 a year ago when I bought it.
In summary, if price is no object for you and you want the best paring knife you can get, buy this knife. Otherwise, I would think twice before making this purchase.

KitchenAid 5-Speed Blenders with Polycarbonate Jars Review

KitchenAid 5-Speed Blenders with Polycarbonate Jars
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been looking for a blender for a few weeks now. We have started making smoothies at home and burned up our old one. Our girls like the "Chocolate Elvis" recipe from the local smoothie place which contains peanutbutter, bananas, yogurt, ice, and milk. I guess this is really hard on blenders. I bought one at Target 2 weeks ago that had "700 watts peak power" on the box. It died in 2 days. The power spec on the bottom of the blender said 450 watts. I think that is false advertisement. I have seen this on 2 different blenders now.
I have been leery of buying any blender with the little plastic teeth couplers because of all the bad reviews here on Amazon. I also wanted to stay away from anything with only 450 watts.
I was in another store and saw this blender. It has a new design for where the blades couple with the motor. "Commercial quality couplers with 12 interlocking teeth....coated for quiet operation".
We have had it for a few days now and have made some pretty thick smoothies. So far, so good. No burning smell like the one that was immediately apparent with the Target blender. My youngest daughter complanied that her smoothie was "too smooth". I guess she got used to the chunks of ice that our past blenders have left.
Kitchenaid doesn't seem to advertise the actual power specs on their blenders. On the bottom of this one it says that it draws 6 amps. Which is about 720 watts or about 0.9 horsepower.
My only complaint so far is the soft start feature. The blade starts at a slower speed then quickly increases to the speed you chose. This process still throws everything up into the lid, which is what it should prevent. It works fine though as long as you have the lid on. It also works if you start with the slowest speed and work your way up.
Overall this blender seems to be well made and pretty well thought out. The cord storage on the bottom is a great feature. It has much bigger feet than the previous model. So far, I would highly recommend this blender for the person looking for a good blender in the under $200 range.
Added comments:
It is a year and about 300 smoothies later and we still have this blender. I would highly recommend it!!

My first one came damaged. (It was Bitterly Cold here and it was packed Tightly in the box, the plastic "Brown" base part shattered and split.) ONE Email and a new one was on its way to replace at NO CHARGE, and it arrived safely so NO Problems with That.
For the reviewer who said it was hard to open the netting ? (said they used a "Plastic Knife and Spoon" ?? You use a SPOON? to open a net ? Anyway, after I watered mine and they (to use another reviewers word "POOFED UP") I found that about 70-80% of them had split open on their own in the "Poofing" process. When they arrive, the little (Lets call them "Pellets") of compressed growth medium have a sort of Flat Side and the other had a (Lets call it "Dimple") in the middle of it. Turn them as needed to put the "Dimples" UP and flat side Down. The Dimples seem to split open as they swell with water. for those that did Not open on their own, I just pulled out my trusty pocket knife made One Tiny Poke in the middle (Cuts like Warm Butter, ZERO Effort) and Wiggle the blade inside a time or two and you have all the "Fluffing" you need. I "Fluffed" in the process of making a small hole in the middle of each wet pellet (a place to put the seeds) maybe 1/4 inch deep or so and about the diameter of a pencil or maybe a tad smaller. drop a seed or two in (I always do doubles in each) and just kept using the pocket knife blade to pat the wet material over the top of the seeds. Pour the water in and wait for them to "POOF" then the opening the net, dropping seeds in and covering them back up part took me .... 5 minutes ? TOPS. and I can report 100% germination of seeds at this point.
Very Happy and back today to buy several more. I'm growing veggies I plat in series (like carrots) where its a new batch ever 2 weeks, so I need more trays, but once you have enough trays, you can just by the pellets and re-use the boxes again.
Last Note; I had another much larger 72 cell tray that came with a electric warming pad. I decided to cheat a bit and moved it over enough so the big tray and this little one could share some warmth and it made a BIG DIFFERENCE. I had 2 or 3 pellets sprouting before. put it on the pad and Overnight ALL of the other pellets sprouted. (MAYBE just lucky timing ??.... but Im also back to buy another warming pad (or two) to help out. (And if you DO ?? The Thermometer control unit is Needed. The warming pads can COOK your seeds if not controlled.
Good Luck

Harold Feemster's Slicer Review

Harold Feemster's Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This thing is cheap but it works like it cost lots more. It cleans up well under hot soapy running water (do not put it in the dishwasher) and the blade on mine has held up well for 5 years of fairly regular use.
The blade is SHARP folks, so use caution. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that it does not come with a veggie holder or handle of some kind to grip the stuff you're slicing.
All mandolines or slicers of this kind are dangerous if care is not taken, so they should all come with veggie holders/handles, in my opinion.
This will slice lots of different thicknesses ( I use mine for apples to make pie, carrots for soup and potatoes for scalloped/other casserole dishes ). Just reposition the handle and press it down on the desired "ledge" notched onto the frame, to get the thickness you want. Place it on a kitchen/dish towel on the counter so it doesn't slip around while cutting, for added safety.
Perfect for everyday cooks, pie bakers and casserole makers like me.

You simply slide the blade further up or down the frame to get the exact thickness you require for the particular food you're slicing. The slicer can be placed on any flat surface, a cutting board or a counter, for instance. You can use this to cut kernels off an ear of corn, to make french fries, slice apples for pie and more. Simple design ingenuity at its best and most frugal.

Orka Personal Silicone Steamer Review

I few months ago I started using the Ziploc Zip and Steam bags. They worked great to quickly steam veggies, but I hated how you just throw them away after a use. (I even re-used the bags sometimes, but you could only do once or twice before they were too dirty or warped). I stumbled upon this product and am so glad I did. It's a permanent version of the zip'n'steam bags. It seems even more powerful though. So far I've done frozen asparagus and 2 minutes wasn't quite enough, but three was a little much. I would do 2 and a half for frozen asparagus next time. Same with frozen green beans. So far, I've only done frozen veggies as that's what I've had on hand, and while it works well, you get a pool of water in the product. No big deal, I just pour that away.
I think it will work even better with fresh veggies, I imagine with those there is no pool of water.
As for another review saying the red item didn't look as pretty as in the pic....It's a steamer that you use in a microwave, not a piece of decor. It looks like what you'd expect it to lock like...red rubbery thing. It's functional, not gorgeous. I love that its dishwasher safe!!!
It is a bit smaller than I expected, though I though I will just purchase a larger one and then have options. This oval red one makes 1-2 servings of veggies. Half a bag of frozen veggies max. Good for a single person, not so good for families or couples who eat big portions of veggies (and if you're trying to lose weight, you want to eat big portions of steamed veggies and less of your other items, so you'll be better off with the larger size.)
The chart that comes with it with cooking times and recipes is very cool and helpful, but has a limited list of veggies, so you'll have to do some guesstimating. I realize this chart is more of a perk, so I won't fault the product for not listing all veggies. In the future, the company might want to expand that chart.

Lodge Logic L5SK3 Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron 8-Inch Skillet
Average Reviews:

I cook for myself, so this little skillet is the perfect size for 3-egg omelet in the morning, or veggie saute for dinner. I am a small to medium sized female w/ skinny arms, but this skillet is not too heavy so I can still lift it w/ one arm. It's not really non-stick because the eggs won't easily slide off the pan like they would from a good new non-stick pan, but it's much much better compared w/ my stainless steel skillets. As long as you soak the pan in water after cooking, by the time you finish your meal, the food residue can be easily washed off with a brush or sponge. I use a nylon dish brush with hot water and cleaning is very fast and easy. I never use soap or steel wool. Leaving a bit grease on acts like re-seasoning. This is the same way I take care of my carbon-steel wok. The only complaint I have is that the handle is way too short. The skillet is relatively heavy but even with my small hands it still feels as if the handle only fits half of my palm, so it forces your hand to hold it really close to the hot pan - really bad design. Though I use it everyday and find it indispensable, the short handle alone is why I am unwilling to give it a five star rating.

Ever have trouble with scallops playing ring-a-round-the-rosie when you have them skewered and on the grill. You most certainly don't have to worry about that with these babies. We bought two sets to make sure we have enough when we have our friends over. Only drawback I think is the wood handles. Granted the wood is small it's still a bit worry some when on the grill. We soak the handles for good measure. The metal tongs are the perfect length and are securly mounted to the handles. No worry there. Never have your food try to fight with you again on the grill with these. We love them.

Cuisipro Apple Corer Review

Cuisipro Apple Corer

I bought the Cuisipro Apple Corer because my 3 year old loves apples, but refuses to eat them sliced, and it's almost impossible to remove an apple core without hacking up the entire apple.
It works perfectly. The serrated edge (at the tip) allows you to easily puncture the apple, and a quick twist allows you to pull the entire core out. The corer opens, letting the core drop out--no digging it out with a pen or other instrument.
Also, there's a 25 year warranty offered by Cuisipro--takes 30 seconds to fill out a form online and you are set in case of breakage or other problems.
The price is a little high for just an apple core, however, it is well crafted, not flimsy metal. You don't have to worry about breaking/bending this on a hard Granny Smith. Well worth the price, in my opinion.

Cuisipro tools have been created to perform specific tasks with precision and ease while always providing the finest results. Cuisipro new apple corer has a unique lever that splits the tool in half for easy release of the unwanted core. The shape and contour of the handle provides the strength to effortlessly twist or push the core through the apple. The large diameter easily breaks through all types of apples, even apples with a firmer flesh such as Granny Smith. Easy to use, while in the close position, insert into the apple. Pull out the core and press the lever for easy core disposal. The serrated edge is very sharp and breaks through the skin of the apple easily. Dishwasher safe-top rack only. One of the biggest frustrations in serving bar cookies and brownies is removing them from the pan so the individual pieces are neat and tidy. I saw this new Rada spatula at a local craft show. As with other Rada items, I bought this piece online and was greatly pleased when it arrived. I used it to remove some gooey bar cookies from the pan - it worked just as well as I had hoped it would. The angle of the handle is just right to allow the server to maneuver the spatula under the baked good and then lift it neatly out of the pan. You definitely won't regret purchasing this little spatula.

Saw this on the Dr. Oz TV show. Normally I use a basket to steam veggies in a copper bottomed pot on the stove.
On this product, the bottom only allows microwaves in. The big and small baskets and the top don't. Both baskets have holes in them. You put water in the bottom up to a line then pile the one and/or two baskets on top and add the lid. The microwaves heat the water on the bottom and the steam cooks the items in the baskets.
Very easy to clean. Can rinse out or put in dishwasher. It is expensive but looks like it will last quite awhile.
Food can be quite hot so it is recommended you leave in microwave for @5 minutes to let it continue cooking and cool down. Otherwise when you remove the top, a lot of really hot steam is emitted.
It comes with a chart showing best times per food item. Longest time on a single fill up of water is 25 minutes but most anything will be cooked between 10 and 17 minutes.
Nice touch is that underneath the lid is embeded the reminder to fill up to water mark on bottom, don't go longer than 25 minutes, don't go higher than 1200 watts.

The order arrived very quickly in a few days. However, NO explanation about how to plant these special seeds was included. I planted them more than 4 weeks ago and no signs of seedlings yet.
I just found out on the internet that seeds must be in a dry paper bag inside the refrigerator for 4 weeks before you can plant them. They also need to be kept under 18° C when planted or else they die. Since I did not know this information, I did not do this before planting them.
When you sell a product, you should include some information about it, especially when it is something unusual like these seeds.
Thank you.

The genus Meconopsis includes Blue Poppies, but also includes other flowers with many other colors including: red, white, pink, and salmon. One thing all poppy flower seeds have in common is a preference for cool, moist shady places. Blue poppies have large delicate petals held in a cup shape, except for some rare double forms of blue poppy which is only found in one species. All Meconopsis flower seed species except one are native to the Himalayan region of Asia. They were first found by flower seekers around 150 years ago, but did not become well known until the 1900's. Meconopsis betonicifolia is the blue poppy that you will find for sale, but it was not the original flower that was brought back from the Himalayan mountains so long ago.
