KitchenAid Sheartoku Kitchen Shears Review

KitchenAid Sheartoku Kitchen Shears
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very excited when I saw an ad for these shears and couldn't wait to get them home to try them for myself. The blade is sharp and cuts very cleanly. Blades come apart for easy cleaning, and since there is no hinge in the middle, as with normal shears, there is no rusting or stiffness at the joint. The product advertises that the santoku blade can be used alone, but obviously, the knife edge is only on the outside of the blade, so don't expect miracles, however, I tried it and it does cut reasonably well as a standalone blade. It has saved me from having to dig out a separate knife just to cut a stick of butter in half, for example. Cuts through thick items like jerky, and slim jims with ease and still soes a good job with more delicate items like fresh herbs. Overall, I love it!

Braun MR430HC Multiquick Deluxe Hand Blender & Chopper Review

Braun MR430HC Multiquick Deluxe Hand Blender and Chopper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here's an instance of bad luck turned good; we moved and of course, the box of kitchen stuff failed to turn up and my older model Braun hand blender was gone. I had to purchase a new one, so I got another Braun because I loved my old one.
Well, this is certainly an improved model over the one I bought 10 years ago. IMMENSELY improved, and I love it so much I am, well, looking for things to beat up. Like pureed vegetable soups, frozen yogurt mix for the freezer, you name it.
Here's what has been made so much better:
1. The attachments that used to come with the Braun were run by the actual cutting blade. With this model, you can remove the blade portion of the stalk and screw the motor shaft onto the mini-chopper or whisk. I just love that!! The older chopper was hard to use because you had to hold it carefully in the socket designed for the blade to run the shaft. That's not a problem here --now the shaft of the blades are directly connected to the motor. A huge improvement.
2. The removable stalk means you can thoroughly clean the blade portion without worrying about submersing the motor part (a no-no for any electrical appliance.)
3. Because the motor is able to be detached from the blades, it is now more powerful--before, the motor seemed "dumbed down" to be able to run the mini-chopper. This new model motor kicks serious batter. In fact, it is so strong, make SURE YOU HAVE IT SUBMERGED in the puree before you run it or you will be spewing gazpacho all over your white kitchen. (I made gazpacho. I have a white kitchen. I know whereof I speak.)
4. The price, for this gem, is incredible. You get a whisk, a mini-chopper, the blender and a mixing beaker and a hanger for the wall if you want to mount it.
5. The one bad point: the motor is VERY strong, so if you have muscular weakness, carpal tunnel syndrome, or some kind of disability that challenges your hand control, I would recommend the variable speed model which goes from slow to fast. It is more money, but if you are physically challenged, it will prevent you from splashing hot soup as you puree it in the pot.
Otherwise, I can't recommend this enough. It is the most-used item I have in my kitchen.

KitchenAid KG301 Rotary Grater, Black Review

KitchenAid KG301 Rotary Grater, Black
Average Reviews:

I was so excited to buy this for my Mom who has arthritis.
She said that she couldn't get it to work, but I figured that it was just because of her arthritis ... but it's not. I don't have arthritis and I couldn't get it to work either. It's just too flimsy and too clumsy. In order to slice cheese you have to put in something like a 1 inch by 1 inch square and then it sorta lobs off pieces .. very impractical!

Use the slicing blade to cut hard vegetables, cukes, potatoes, and hard cheeses. The coarse blade is ideal for grating root vegetables such as fennel, beets, turnips and parsnips. And last but not least the fine blade will make bread crumbs, grate nutmeg, chocolate, and hard cheeses. The handle holds the food in place while the arm controls the grating.

Westinghouse WST2002 SaladXPress Salad Spinner Review

Westinghouse WST2002 SaladXPress Salad Spinner

The spin speed is much less than that achieved with our previous hand crank salad spinner. It does not spin fast enough to remove excess water from lettuce. After a short time, the SaladXPress became appreciably slower. Under the terms of the warranty, it was replaced with what appears to be a new unit. The new one isn't any better than the first. We've given up on the SaladXPress and purchased an OXO SoftWorks hand powered salad spinner.

Think of it as a hybrid food processor/salad spinner. The 400 watt motor can grate or slice fruits and vegetables as well as spin them dry after rinsing. It can also grate and spin cheese, meats and more. With storage space always at a premium, it's the multi-function appliances that win the day.

KitchenAid Stainless Steel Euro Peeler Review

KitchenAid Stainless Steel Euro Peeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have always hated peeling potatoes and other vegetables, and so when I knew it was my turn to make Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to see if an expensive peeler would make a difference. I bought this one and absolutely LOVE it. I can't believe that a simple peeler could make me so happy, but after all those hand and arm cramps from my old metal peeler, this one makes all the difference in the world. I can peel potatoes in 1/3 or less of the time that I used to, and it requires absolutely no effort -- the blade is so sharp that if you put pressure on it, it'll take off more than just the skin of the vegetable you're peeling. When I had to peel 15 potatoes for dinner, it took 5 minutes and so little effort. It's also ergonomically comfortable, and I love the fact that KA includes a plastic cover for the blade.
This is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets (who would have ever thought you could get joy from something so simple??) and I'm constantly buying it for friends who cook because it makes such a difference.

What are the most important features of a vegetable peeler? You want it to be comfortable in the hand and you want it to have a sharp, precise edge. Otherwise how will you ever peel that mountain of spuds for the family reunion potato salad, or that bushel of apples for apple pies and applesauce? KitchenAid is right on target with this handsome Euro peeler.

KitchenAid Red Salad and Fruit Spinner Review

KitchenAid Red Salad and Fruit Spinner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A passionate home cook that has been honing her cooking skills for the last 25 years writes this review. My favorite cookbooks are "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute and "Culinary Artistry". I love to cook and I prepare three meals a day most days of the month.
My husband and I embarked on a mostly vegan lifestyle about 3 months ago and I decided that I needed a larger salad spinner. I purchased this salad spinner to replace a smaller one that is battery operated that I have been using for at least 15 years.
Pros:
1.The rubber bottom on this spinner keeps it in place on the counter while you are using it. This is a big improvement over the standard spinners.
2.The large capacity is also very nice if you eat a lot of vegetation.
3.The pump is easy to use provided that you remember not to push all the way to the bottom of the stroke with causes it to lock. This takes a little getting used to, but you will get the hang of it eventually.
4.The pump mechanism should be less susceptible to breakage than the string models. I have heard from others that the pull mechanism is prone to breakage on the pull models.
5.It removes as much water from the produce as my battery operated salad spinner.
Cons:
1.I can't remove the center stem on the basket no matter what I try. I think that this is a design flaw.
2.The spinner is a little awkward to clean with the center stem in place.
Overall, I think this product is middle of the road, not great but not terrible either. I like having the extra capacity, but I would be much happier if I could get the stem out of the basket to facilitate cleaning the thing.

KitchenAid RVSA Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers Review

KitchenAid RVSA Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nota Bene:
I have tried to contact Kitchen-Aid for over a month, wrote 4 EM via the KitchenAid customer support Website, and beside their promise to answer within 3 business day, I have yet to hear from them.
I'm truly disappointed with their customer support and the RSVA.
Kitchen-Hell: "for the way it's made"Well,
What a deception!
Probably the worst shredder I ever used.
I purchase this product in the idea that KitchenAid was a good brand (by experience), but I must admit that I have the feeling that I paid $50 for a very, very poor shredder, which should be sold $15 maximum. A $7 Walmart hand shredder makes a better job.
I have the feeling that KitchenAid just ripped me off.
I'm a mechanical engineer and I love to cook, and I'm normally the type to buy one excellent knife instead of 2 poor ones, but this time, I was fooled.
So , let's review the product:
First of all, the cones are not stainless steel, but regular steel, badly chromed.
It means that, one day or another, they will rust.
How can you tell? Use a magnet, if it is not sticking, it's a 18/10 stainless steel. (18% Chrome + 10% Nickel, a TRUE Stainless Steel)
Try with your kitchenaid mixing bowl, and you'll see.
It also means that if you ever try to sharpen the slicing blades, you'll take off the chrome and it WILL rust very quickly.
I'm sorry, but a brand like Kitchenaid should AT LEAST, provides Stainless Steel cones. Especially at 50 bucks a piece. (and I suppose that's why it is stated HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY), not allowed to use regular steel in a restaurant)
The blades are either dull, unevenly sharpened, or not at all(sides). It mashes or puree very well, but the cuts are uneven and messy. I just wanted a slicer, not a musher.
The sharpening on (my) slicing cones is visibly uneven. one side slices, the other not.
The gap between the cones and the body is too big, food goes in, get pushed in by the dull cones to end up in a mess.
The cones rotate unevenly, off balance, which adds to the previous mess.
The length of the blades is smaller than the size of the spout. (the cutting length should be a least the size of the spout, not smaller )
In short: everything that goes is those corners is miserably mashed So, as a result, in my opinion: buy something else.
Add $20 and buy yourself something decent. Plus, the attachment is so bulky that a food processor will not take much space.
My grade on a 10 scale: 3
Probably the worst shredder I ever used.
And if you ever decide to buy one , please contact me , for $25, you'll have an almost brand new one.

This attachment performs the cutting and shredding duties your food processor might: select the proper cone, slip it into the plastic housing, and attach all to your stand mixer's hub with a metal shaft. You can shred potatoes, onions, nuts, and chocolate, or slice vegetables for cooking or munching. While it adds versatility to your mixer, the unit is cumbersome to disassemble--more so than KitchenAid's other nifty attachments--and its several parts make it difficult to store. Still, it's easier on your arms than manual slicing and shredding, especially for large quantities, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. --Betsy Danheim

KitchenAid JE Citrus Juicer Stand Mixer Attachment Review

KitchenAid JE Citrus Juicer Stand Mixer Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this attachment and use it frequently. That said, I have some suggestions:
For users-
1. Use the KitchenAid mixing bowl to catch the juice, and place a large standard kitchen strainer across the bowl. This speeds things up a lot!
2. Rub some shortening on the aluminum shaft before inserting it into the brass sleeve. If you use your juicer a lot, this will greatly prolong its life.
For KitchenAid-
1. The plastic piece that inserts into the mixer should be made out of metal, instead of plastic with a metal sleve. On mine the plastic is cracking away from the brass.
2. The aluminum shaft should be brass or steel. As it is, the bearing surface is a small area of aluminum that even when lubricated, is showing lots of wear.

Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers Review

Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers
Average Reviews:

I tried using this to chop up onions, green peppers and garlic with this for sofrito. All I can say is that I ended up running to Wally World for a food processor. The food kept getting jammed up and much of it wouldn't even chop and got wedged in between the metal chopping cone and the plastic casing. I also had to use the larger shredder size because the smaller one didn't do much of anything. It might just be the veggies I was chopping but it kind of defeats the purpose if there are certain things I can't chop with it. While it's nice to have versatile attachments for such a great machine, this one is not one of the better ones. Hopefully it will perform better on other veggies or cheeses.

KitchenAid Chef Series Food Chopper Review

KitchenAid Chef Series Food Chopper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had a few full-size food processors in the past -- both expensive and cheap models -- and the main complaints I had with them were: bulkiness, noise, and cleanup time. Over time, I realized that I was doing fewer and fewer things with the processor, and then finally, it got put away for good.
But lately, I found that I was chopping the same ingredients, in almost the same amounts, again and again.
So, on a whim, really, I decided to give the Kitchenaid 3-cup chopper a try. I own a number of Kitchenaid large appliances, and have always been satisfied. This food chopper is no exception, as it exceeds my expectations for handling my chopping drudgery. Be it onions, garlic, emulsifying dressing, making bread crumbs, chopping nuts, whatever.
This unit takes a very small amount of counter space, has a great look, stores its cord in the base, and its bowl and cover are dishwasher-safe.
This appliance is a nice time-saver, and that, in my opinion, makes it a great item.

KitchenAid's Mini Food Processor is so versatile, it can handle up to 3-cups of ingredients for salsas, sauces, relishes, dips, pesto, baked goods and much more. Use the pulse control for precise operation. A locking domed lid includes a through compartment for adding ingredients as you go and the "reverse spiral action" stainless steel blade pulls food down into the blade and ensures uniform chopping throughout, so you will hardly ever find yourself scraping down the bowl. The KitchenAid quality is especially evident in its construction -- a heavy base adds stability while your processor is in use and the sealed housing reduces noise. When you're done processing, simply wipe off the seamless base and put the other parts in the dishwasher for cleaning. Chopper even comes with a spatula.

KitchenAid FPPA Mixer Attachment Pack for Stand Mixers Review

KitchenAid FPPA Mixer Attachment Pack for Stand Mixers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a KitchenAid and I must say, they are as good as their high reputation. I bought the mixer mainly to make bread, but what makes it even better are the accessories. These convert the stand mixer/dough maker into a vegetable processor, grinder and sausage maker. There is also a grain grinder that really works quite well. Here are the pros and cons of this set, as I see it:
Pros:
You get a decent meat grinder with two blades, coarse and fine. This means you can make ground turkey with no additives, ground chicken without added fat, or fresh ground beef. You can also grind meat for sausage (about which, later.)
You get a slicer similar to those hand-turned cone types that make cole slaw or waffled carrot slices.
Cons:
The sausage nozzle for filling the casings is not included. This is, in my opinion, really dumb. It's just a couple of pieces of molded plastic. For heaven's sake, include it.
The slicer is a bit clunky. If you don't put the bowl to catch the shreds just right, you get slaw all over. And sometimes it is hard to get the cone off the flanges of the connecting pin that fits into the mixer attachment point. But screwing it into the mixer and grabbing with a rubber mat usually works for me.
I prefer a mandoline, a food processor or even a big board and a really sharp chef's knife to the slicer, but it does save on counter space. So, this is a good thing to have as an addition to your KitchenAid if you do any kind of prep cooking, such as canning, salads, baby foods, venison processing, or sausages. It's very good quality plastic and metal, though the cone blade finish seems a bit crude to me. I can recommend it, with the reservations I mentioned.

This gizmo makes the shortest work of making applesauce you ever imagined. You slice the apples, cook in a large pan with a small amount of water until they are soft. Then you push the apple mush, skins, seeds, core, stems, etc. in the top of the food grinder, and out the sieve part comes pure applesauce, out the end, comes the seeds, skin and stem. It takes maybe 10 minutes to process a 16qt pot of cooked apples.
I usually get every burner on my stove going, heat the pots of apples, process the mush into sauce, then can the lot. The canning part takes the longest.
Anyway if you can apple sauce, you need this tool.

I bought this attachment to go along with the food grinder attachment (sold separately.) Wow - I can't believe how quickly I can make fresh applesauce. I simmer quartered apples - seeds, cores, peels, and all - until tender, then send them through the strainer. In minutes, I have fresh, hot applesauce. The refuse is expelled through the end and into another bowl, so you never have to worry about all that peeling and coring.
Tomato sauce? Just as easy. Fresh quartered tomatoes go in one end; the juice/pulp and the seeds come out separately. After that, it's only a matter of cooking the sauce down.
The strainer is a great addition to my kitchen.
