Cuisinart Mandolin Slicer Review

(More customer reviews)This mandoline slicer was a disappointment. It is very difficult to operate, especially when slicing tougher vegetables like butternut squash or even onions. It is very hard to keep the vegetables in place and you have to press down so hard to keep them from sliding off that it feels like you're about to break the thing in half. I'm sticking to knives and the food processor from now on.

Krups FSC112 Juice Extractor, Black Review

(More customer reviews)This extractor is extremely good at making juice. It's fast and generally produces a good amount of juice relative to the mass of fruit or vegetable going in. Unlike traditional juicers that operate by squeezing the juice out there will be absolutely no pulp in the output, just pure unadulterated juice. This is generally good, although an option for pulpy orange juice would be nice (besides having to scrape the filtered solids - which contain pith and seeds - out of the pulp collector and into the juice). It's really great at some fruits and veggies that traditional juicers can't handle, like carrots, wheat grass, and pomegranate.
If you have a dishwasher I recommend this juicer, assuming you aren't too attached to pulpy juice. If not, only get one if you don't mind spending a lot of time scrubbing. The pulp tends to coat most of the internal workings and is very pasty. It can take a solid 10 minutes to completely wash by hand, which is probably less time than it would take to just get the juice out via an old fashioned hand juicer.
A final feather in its cap, it is quite stylishly designed and looks good.
Edit, a year later: It's much, much easier to clean with a nylon brush than a sponge. As long as you wash it immediately after use (before the pulp has dried into a paste) it's not that bad.

(More customer reviews)I absolutely love these dishes. I didn't intend to get them but I was doing a search for a toy tea set for my grandaughter and stumbled across these. I had purchased some paper napkins in this pattern at a tea house and when I saw these I was immediately drawn to them. I grew up very poor and when I got married I didn't register for china because I didn't think anyone would want to spend that much money on me. But when my daughter married I completed her china pattern so she would have a whole set, and when my son got married I did the same for his wife (and when she left him later she took the china with her :< ), so I thought it was my turn! Royal Albert was featuring these dishes at that time with many free things included with a four place setting package. They are just beautiful. I love the roses and the shades of red and pink and yellow. The "sculptured" pieces have porcelain pieces added to the surface with the thinest flower petals and leaves shaped like real flowers. The dinnerware can be washed in the dishwasher on china setting. I was afraid to look at them after the first time I did this, but they came through just fine. The sculptured pieces are not supposed to be submerged-the instructons said to dust them with a soft bruch so that is what I have done. There are different pieces that look like OCR but are made by other companies, so be sure to check the stamp on the bottom of any items not purchased from Royal Doulton. Most sellers will show a picture of the stamp, and a scratch through it or an x might mean it was a second sold through the company employee's store. The items made in China may be knock-offs. The original pieces were made in England, new pieces now are made in Indonesia, and any other location is questionable so do some research before buying. I am so glad I waited to find the best, most beautiful china in the world to be my china.

The Pampered Chef Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer Review

(More customer reviews)I just used this at a friend's house to make apple pie. This clamps onto the counter or table. You spear the apple (or whatever you are slicing) through the core with the sharp knife-ish things then you start turning the handle. It slices the peel into a long one piece spiral, and then cores it. The apple itself is then like a slinkie. Cutting it in half makes perfect thin half-moon slices. You remove the core from the end of the slicer, then start over. The handle is easy to turn, it doesn't really take any muscle. What would've taken 20 or more minutes to slice and core enough apples for 2 big pies took literally less than 5 minutes and gave us perfect slices. I'm about to buy one right now! Obviously, it's good for much more than apples, that's just what I used to explain it.

Haier HPG1400BSS Professional Panini Maker Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this grill at our local grocery store on special. I've wanted a panini maker for a long time and researched the one's out there. Either I rejected them because of the reviews or they didn't have all the features I wanted and the price was high.
The Haier 1400BSS doesn't have all the bells and whistles I wanted (removeable plates, interchangeable plates, temp control on both sides, etc.), but it does grill evenly on both sides and makes wonderful sandwiches. For the price, this is an excellent grill. I'll use it until it dies and keep saving for a professional model.
This unit does have the floating head (top), floating hinge lock, temperature dial, power and ready to cook lights, a drip tray that attaches (great), and a cleaning tool. It DID NOT come with any recipes.
The panini grill has a slight grill incline so the fats and juices run off. It can be used for cooking meats and veggies too. It's real easy to clean. Make sure you use cooking spray before making a sandwich and clean between uses.
I find that cleaning the unit just after making a sandwich, when the grill is still hot, is the easiest. Just use a damp sponge and run it up and down the grill on both sides. Then take a wet paper towel and go over it. BE CAREFUL the plates are real hot.
I've had mine for a week now and have used it 6 out of 7 days. Some days I've used it twice. LOVE IT. Takes a bit to get use to where the temp knob needs to be but with a little practice, you'll find the right spot. I put mine 3/4 of the way and it works like a charm. Haven't tried meat or veggies yet so those might differ.
The only non-positive things I can say about the grill is I think the floating head could be hinged more centered. The instruction book could give tips and suggestions too plus some RECIPES.
Hope you get one. I'm picking some up for Christmas presents. Happy Grilling.

If it had been assembled it still would have been a disappointment. Granted I am not a carpenter I guess if I was I would have made it myself in the first place and saved 70 dollars and a lot of time. If you buy it and find assembly a breeze please respond and I will retract this and come to the realization that I do indeed have a very limited ability to do even simple tasks.

Good4U® 6 - tray Food Dehydrator Review

(More customer reviews)After much debate on buying the Good4U or Excalibur dehydrator, this one won out. I was impressed with the price and design of the unit. I wish I had got the Excalibur, with the problems I have had!
I used it 5 out of 7 days a week for 3 months. It started to make a loud clicking noise to which my husband figured out that the electrical tape holding some wires had come loose. After fixing that, a week later it stopped heating altogether. The heating temp switch also broke. I cook a lot of raw so it was upsetting not know what temp I was dehydrating at.
We have contacted the website and called the company's phone number to no end. Two months later NO ONE WILL CONTACT US BACK. This dehydrator has great potential, but some bugs that need to be worded out before buying. It needs the company to stand behind its guarantee to its registed buyers!
BE CAREFUL when buying this. I wish I would have bought the excalibur, because I now will buy it in addition to this broken one!

He had all of the attachments, so I was able to use the berry screen. I washed the berries, but left the hulls on to see what it would do. Well, I got perfect results when it hulled and de-seeded 9 quarts of strawberries in less than 1/2 hour. The cleanup wasn't much of a challenge when weighed against the amount of work and mess I would have made without it.
I made wonderful strawberry jelly with the juice and pulp, that I still get mention of when I see the people I gave some to. I had to get this machine so I can repeat last year's success without having to borrow my friend's machine again.

Everything but that handle is very nice, heavy-duty stainless steel. However, when you apply any force to the upper handle (which is made from either very lightweight SS or aluminum), is bends easily, rendering the utensil useless.

I specifically did not want a teflon or non-stick cooking pot and that is exactly what this product has. I am really surpised that Dr. Weil would sell a product with a non-stick surface as this surface is known as a carcinogin and he is known as a health minded professional. (More customer reviews)Firstly, I have had no mechanical issues with my juicer and use it about every day. I use beets, carrots, apples, oranges and all get turned into delicious juice! I almost never have to use the high setting and find the motor to be very powerful and find it very easy to clean, dis-assemble. The only minor gripe would be that the pulp can sometimes collect at the top of the resevoir. I like that it feels very stable, is very solid and has suction cups to hold it in place. It is very powerful, makes great juice and I'm all the healthier for it!

Proctor-Silex Rice Cooker and Steamer Review

(More customer reviews)I have had this model for just over a year and it spontaneously died. This is the second rice maker to die after a short time, so the failure is the reason for 2 stars. While it WAS working, it cooked rice just fine. Ours came with a veggie steamer which worked well, just remember to put a little less water for the rice if you make rice along side it as the veggies will add water to the rice.
Aside from the failure this was a good rice maker, if it hadn't failed I'd have rated it 4 stars, because sometimes the cooker would switch spontaneously to warm mode before finishing cooking the rice.
