(More customer reviews)I have had this model for just over a year and it spontaneously died. This is the second rice maker to die after a short time, so the failure is the reason for 2 stars. While it WAS working, it cooked rice just fine. Ours came with a veggie steamer which worked well, just remember to put a little less water for the rice if you make rice along side it as the veggies will add water to the rice.
Aside from the failure this was a good rice maker, if it hadn't failed I'd have rated it 4 stars, because sometimes the cooker would switch spontaneously to warm mode before finishing cooking the rice.

(More customer reviews)I got this for Christmas and tried it out first time with whole wheat rotini pasta.
The pasta turned out fine. This is also supposed to cook vegetables, shrimp and different types of pasta. It cut down on my cooking time and I didn't have to deal with the steam from cooking and draining pasta the traditional way. It may not work for a large pasta meal, the amount of pasta it will cook will probably serve 2-4 people.
I recommend this product for convenience and reduced cooking time. Now I just have to worry about one pot on the stove for the pasta sauce.

Presto 06003 Options Electric Multi-Cooker/Steamer Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this EXACT model in 2001, and along with steaming, blanching, roasting, etc., it clearly advertises itself as a "deep fryer" of which it does an excellent job. The manual even includes full frying instructions!
If Presto has decided to now say "don't fry in this", it is strictly a legal move. The problem is that Presto's "fry daddy" line has no temperature control, and it's preset low enough so that you can't set any frying liquid on fire. But these also have no versatility.
The multi-cooker can do so much more, because you can set the temperature from "warm" to 400 degrees. This is higher than the smoke point of some frying mediums (lard and shortening in particular) and therefore IF you don't know the smoke point of what you're using, you can get in trouble. This is probably why Presto's lawyers decided to say it's not a fryer anymore, although it clearly is. I, however, will happily continue to use my multi-cooker to make great fries, fried shrimp and chicken, donuts, etc. in addition to steaming and blanching vegetables, as well as braising. It's the most versatile appliance I own!

(More customer reviews)I bought this product almost a yr ago. Its great for cooking in the dorms where your only appliance is a microwave. I couldnt eat the dorm food and this allowed me to cook pasta in my room. I wish i hadnt lost my package insert, that told me the cooking times for everything, so if anyone else goes out and buys this, do us all a favor and post it, eh? I liked that it gave cooking times for steaming veggies, pasta and rice; I LOVED how easy it was to clean. This is a MUST for any one going away to school, and makes a GREAT graduation gift.

(More customer reviews)I bought this after a fellow dorm student showed me how to use his steamer of another brand. I chose this one because of the design and the removable top shelf that allows you to cook larger items. I can get 2 chicken breast (boneless skinless) chicken breast for $3.00, a bag of baby carrots for $1.25 and a small bag of small red potatoes for $1.50.
I put the chicken in a bag or container and pour in my spices (I use Mrs. Dash because it's salt free and so flavorful) and mix it up until the chicken is coated. I let the chicken sit sometimes to soak up the spices better (usually overnight) but spicing before steaming is still great. I will put one breast in the middle of the bottom tier, surround it with carrots. I put the other breast on the top tier, surround it with red potatoes cut into quarters (leaving them whole works, but i like them cut to add seasoning) and in 25 minutes me and another person are having an awesome healthy meal.
Steaming is more effective at retaining the vitamins in your fruits and vegetables. I am telling you straight up, if you want to lose weight, buy this steamer, and try my recipe above. its a salt free dish that has so much natural flavorful hearty goodness that will not leave you hungry trust me.ive lost 30 lbs since august 2010 (its almost Halloween 2010) and most of my dinners have been similar to the above recipe, no salt, no butter or margarine, just natural spices and foods cooked using a natural, nutrient retention process.
