Purchased 4 different types of heirloom tomatoes -- when arrived -- plants died within 3 days even after lightly watering them. Bought similar plants last year from same vendor -- crop was fantastic. When notified, they asked for photos of dead plants (guess for a $21 sale they had little, if any, trust in a returning customer).
The plants had bee tossed -- why am I hanging onto dead agriculture -- I know dead when I see dead. Instead, I just went out and purchased replacement plants at my local farmers' market and decided to chalk-up my recent bad experience to just that -- from now on when it comes to living things my new credo is to buy locally.
Thanx for reading.

TOMATO: Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the seeds are high in fiber. The green parts are mildly poisonous, which is not surprising, as tomatoes are closely related to both nightshade and tobacco. The tomato was originally believed to be poisonous when introduced into Europe, and was used solely as an ornamental plant during the 16th and 17th centuries. The first traces of its use as a food date back to the first half of the 18th century. Tomatoes are now a tasty ingredient in many dishes, and are used fresh, canned, stewed or even sun-dried.
Big Rainbow Tomato: HEIRLOOM. What an astonishing feast for the eyes! The flesh inside is marbled with red in the bottom half of the fruit. It has a big, lumpy beefsteak shape with a very mild and sweet flavor. It's a knockout on a platter with slices of other tomato varieties. The large fruits (often 22 ounces) are borne on tall plants. Indeterminate. Ready to harvest in 85 days.
