The four plants I received were starter plants not plants large enough to be able to produce artichokes this year. Artichokes need to be two years old to produce Artichokes and these were probably just grown from seed. I have taken pictures to show them, minus two plants since I've already started to planting them today.
The four I received were plants grown in those small black plastic starter pots for seedlings. I think they are called Single Cell Seedling Punnets.
I did contact Hirts about this and questioned whether or not they just got my order mixed up. It happens. They didn't provide an explanation but automatically gave me a refund. Nice, but I wanted the right plants, not necessarily a refund. So I asked how I can get the plants instead and was told "no, it was a listing mistake".
That was two days ago and I've waited to see if they will correct this "listing mistake" but they haven't and instead added "The starter plant you will receive is growing in a 3 pot." but they haven't changed the title of this listing. I want to make sure others are aware that the plants you will receive are NOT plants which will produce this year.
I don't have anything against Hirts but the listing needs to be corrected so people will not think they are going to receive nice large plants.

The flowerhead is eaten as a vegetable. It is thistle like in appearance Can be pickled, baked, fried, boiled or stuffed. Young artichokes can be eaten raw. Hardy perennial. Globe Artichokes were cultivated by the Greeks and Romans who obtained them from North Africa. They have been grown in England since at least the 1500's and were considered an aristocratic vegetable. King Henry VIII (1491-1547; he who had 6 wives but could produce only 3 children) was particularly fond of artichokes, possibly because they were (mistakenly) thought to be an aphrodisiac. Proper name: Cynara scolymus Hardy in zones 6-9
