I do a lot of cooking and chopping of veggies, so I had injured myself quite a few times and thought this might be the answer. I found it to be fairly unwieldy, so much so that I stopped using it. After that, I took a knife skills class and learned how to chop safely.
My recommendation, if you're interested in safety, is to take a class develop a solid technique that keeps fingers and other body parts well out of the way of the blade so there is no chance of cutting yourself, and use that technique consistently!
