Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler Review

Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I certainly agree with the reviewer who said this peeler performed awesomely on peaches. (It also works nicely on nectarines and other soft fruit.) It also comes with a hard plastic blade guard that protects the blade when it's tossed in a drawer. Like others, I purchased this item for the wrong reason (in order to qualify for the extra $25 off an order of $125 or more), but I am certainly glad I did.
5/11/06: This peeler also does a fine job on ripe tomatoes (for those who do not wish to peel using the traditional scalding method).
11/04/06: I have purchased several for 'stocking stuffers'. You might consider doing the same.

I did not purchase this from Amazon. Big mistake. If I had I would have gotten a much better price! The peeler works well but the julienne peeler that comes with it works ok. You have to be careful. It does not work on everything! The teeth bend. I called Samurai and they do not return calls. By the way they (not Amazon, but Samurai) says they will 'throw in the julienne peeler for free' and you pay shipping and handling. Shipping and handling is almost $9.00 per piece! We paid s/h for two peelers that were shipped in the same box. Now remember this was not purchased from Amazon, and that was our first mistake!

World Kitchen/Ekco 1045559 Peeler Review

World Kitchen/Ekco 1045559 Peeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this wonderful little peeler for at least a couple decades. I can't recall where I got it and it has no brand imprinted on it. It still works fine and is still very sharp. The problem is that it has become somewhat rusty and badly stained and looks bad with the other tools in the kitchen drawer. So, my wife and I were visiting our local Ace Hardware and noticed this Ekco Peeler. It was bright, shiny and new and we were delighted to find another to replace our aging peeler.
Our old peeler is almost identical to the new Ekco model, except in a few details. I'd say they probably came out of the same factory except that the old one has "Made in the USA" stamped on it. I threw away the new package, but I suspect it would have "Made in China" on it.
Well, fortunately, we didn't toss the old peeler. It's far superior to the new one. It's far sharper and will peel potatoes, carrots and what not all far faster and with less effort. Go figure. This new one is a little piece of junk compared with our old rusted and badly stained peeler. If we ever throw one away, it will be this Ekco model.

Pedrini Black & Satin Swivel Blade Peeler Review

Pedrini Black and Satin Swivel Blade Peeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A vertical peeler (where the blade is parallel to your fingers) feels so much more natural to use than a horizontal one. However, I've been used to a stationary blade, and getting used to the swivel is taking a little time, particularly on smaller food. However, I like the shape, weight and feel of this one, and think it will be worth the extra price once I get used to it.

World Cuisine 2-3/4-Inch Stainless Steel Potato Peeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cooking is my hobby and I spend a lot of time on careful prep work. I have weak closing strength and pain in my hands which makes it hard to impossible to use the conventional rotating or moving blade type of peeler. This type is called a French peeler or fixed blade peeler and it works great by transferring the motion from thumb and fingers to the wrist and lower arm. Yes, it does take a little getting used to but once you master your own technique it's actually much faster and certainly less painful to use.

Ceramic Potato Peeler and Grater Review

Ceramic Potato Peeler and Grater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I work in a restaurant and have been using this peeler for some time now, I can say, it's easily the best out there. It's ceramic blade is incredibly sharp and hasn't needed sharpening yet, also the grater above the peeler is excellent for garlic or wasabi. It's handle is substantial and robust, giving it a better grip that most other ceramic peelers, also, it doesn't break or fall apart like my old Kyocera peeler did! The pit scraper is also built into the handle and isn't a fragile loop like other peelers. Also, its a minor point, but the hook hole on the handle is great for hanging it on the hooks in my kitchen, so you don't have to hang it blade area dulling the edge. Truly this is a nice peeler and cheap too considering it's made in Japan.

Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler, Black Review

Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler, Black
Average Reviews:

This is the best peeler ever. It's small enough it fits in your hand easily, and that makes it very easy to peel things very quickly. If you hand wash and dry it, you'll have no problems with rust.
I use mine to peel 100+ apples a week, and have been for at least six months, and it still easily peels more delicate things, such as very ripe peaches, but then it will also peel much more difficult things like cheese pumpkins. No joke. this thing can take your toughest squashes, or your ripest peaches with no problem.

The Zyliss electric peeler was given to me as a gift. I used it with some reservation to discover it was a fabulous tool and one of the favorites in my kitchen drawer. I use it always to quickly peel carrots or potatoes, etc. I recently gave a Zyliss peeler as a gift to a friend. She called with rave reviews to say she used it to shave parmesan. I enthusiastically recommend the Zyliss electric peeler. This battery powered tool is well worth the money.

Tupperware Twistable Peeler. Orange Review

Tupperware Twistable Peeler. Orange
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am sure that this peeler would be fantastic (like other peelers produced by Tupperware), except that the blade fell out on mine on first use. Tupperware needs to perfect the design a lot more in order to ensure that the blade is wedged in enough to the 'holder' so that when you press on a potato or apple the blade doesn't just pop out. Such a shame, as having to pay for postage to get a free replacement on such a cheap item hardly makes it worthwhile in the long run.

Victorinox Swiss Peeler, Polypropylene Handle Review

Victorinox Swiss Peeler, Polypropylene Handle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this peeler from a fellow chef who sold knives and peelers in his spare time to other chefs. He'd stocked a bunch but couldn't get any one - chefs or not - to buy one because of the weird shape, and had resorted to giving them away for free. I was suspicious of it at first, too. It sat at the bottom of my toolbox for months until the peeler at home gave out, and this one got pulled into rotation. It does take a little getting used to (you peel away from yourself, vs. towards yourself, and at a slight angle), but you get the hang of it quickly and not only do you peel faster, but it's much safer. I accidentally threw out my peeler and had to go back to a regular swivel peeler, but now I can't stand it. I'm going back to Victorinox.

This item is so small cheap and simple, AND AWESOME! I bought two for myself (one for home one for work) plus one for my mom as a gift! It makes peeling citrus fruits (mainly oranges) a breeze! no more orange peel bits stuck under your fingernails, no more trying to scrape off thick peices of peel that are hopefuly stuck to the outside of the orange. It really is a simple and USEFUL gadget.

Zyliss Julienne Peeler Review

Zyliss Julienne Peeler
Average Reviews:

This product is good enough for home use or casual use. But, I find this product to be more work that is should be. I'm always cautious about using this one because, it's unpredictable. The edges are so sharp and it's kinda scary to slip and have it glide onto your hand. I bought another julienne peeler at my local "asian" marketplace made in japan and cost around 3 buck and kinda out preforms this one. The only catch is, is that, it make smaller julienne cuts that this one. The difference is that, the 3 dollar peeler has serrated blade which makes it more easier to glide to peel. Good enough but, take extreme care in using it.

But usable. It's different in the fact that it's very small and as an American I am pretty much accustomed to the peelers that are turned to the side. This one zips right down the vegetable so you better be really careful with the edges of your palms. It's smaller than it appears and it's plastic, kind've hard to get a good grip on it but like I said, it's different. Doesn't mean it's bad. Hopefully it will last a while. :)
