(More customer reviews)I certainly agree with the reviewer who said this peeler performed awesomely on peaches. (It also works nicely on nectarines and other soft fruit.) It also comes with a hard plastic blade guard that protects the blade when it's tossed in a drawer. Like others, I purchased this item for the wrong reason (in order to qualify for the extra $25 off an order of $125 or more), but I am certainly glad I did.
5/11/06: This peeler also does a fine job on ripe tomatoes (for those who do not wish to peel using the traditional scalding method).
11/04/06: I have purchased several for 'stocking stuffers'. You might consider doing the same.

(More customer reviews)I did not purchase this from Amazon. Big mistake. If I had I would have gotten a much better price! The peeler works well but the julienne peeler that comes with it works ok. You have to be careful. It does not work on everything! The teeth bend. I called Samurai and they do not return calls. By the way they (not Amazon, but Samurai) says they will 'throw in the julienne peeler for free' and you pay shipping and handling. Shipping and handling is almost $9.00 per piece! We paid s/h for two peelers that were shipped in the same box. Now remember this was not purchased from Amazon, and that was our first mistake!

World Kitchen/Ekco 1045559 Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this wonderful little peeler for at least a couple decades. I can't recall where I got it and it has no brand imprinted on it. It still works fine and is still very sharp. The problem is that it has become somewhat rusty and badly stained and looks bad with the other tools in the kitchen drawer. So, my wife and I were visiting our local Ace Hardware and noticed this Ekco Peeler. It was bright, shiny and new and we were delighted to find another to replace our aging peeler.
Our old peeler is almost identical to the new Ekco model, except in a few details. I'd say they probably came out of the same factory except that the old one has "Made in the USA" stamped on it. I threw away the new package, but I suspect it would have "Made in China" on it.
Well, fortunately, we didn't toss the old peeler. It's far superior to the new one. It's far sharper and will peel potatoes, carrots and what not all far faster and with less effort. Go figure. This new one is a little piece of junk compared with our old rusted and badly stained peeler. If we ever throw one away, it will be this Ekco model.

I have weak closing strength and pain in my hands which makes it hard to impossible to use the conventional rotating or moving blade type of peeler. This type is called a French peeler or fixed blade peeler and it works great by transferring the motion from thumb and fingers to the wrist and lower arm. Yes, it does take a little getting used to but once you master your own technique it's actually much faster and certainly less painful to use.

(More customer reviews)This is the best peeler ever. It's small enough it fits in your hand easily, and that makes it very easy to peel things very quickly. If you hand wash and dry it, you'll have no problems with rust.
I use mine to peel 100+ apples a week, and have been for at least six months, and it still easily peels more delicate things, such as very ripe peaches, but then it will also peel much more difficult things like cheese pumpkins. No joke. this thing can take your toughest squashes, or your ripest peaches with no problem.

(More customer reviews)Now, you can get the Rotato which is a hand cranked operation or the Rotato Express which is an automatic gadget. I prefer the Rotato because the wiring tends to get misplaced in my gadget loving household. Here's the deal... if you (and/or your family) loves potatoes (fried, diced, mashed... you get the idea), then you really must have a terrific potato peeler. And quite frankly, there is none finer. The hand cranked variety of the Rotato will last you through thousands of potatoes; and you will look like a whiz kid. This is a great thing to give for xmas-- a sort of generic xmas present that will be loved long after this xmas is over. Also, it comes with extra blades (because they do wear out) that you can locate in its base. I bought an extra set (at a very reasonable price) because I have broken a few of the blades along the way.

(More customer reviews)I received this peeler from a fellow chef who sold knives and peelers in his spare time to other chefs. He'd stocked a bunch but couldn't get any one - chefs or not - to buy one because of the weird shape, and had resorted to giving them away for free. I was suspicious of it at first, too. It sat at the bottom of my toolbox for months until the peeler at home gave out, and this one got pulled into rotation. It does take a little getting used to (you peel away from yourself, vs. towards yourself, and at a slight angle), but you get the hang of it quickly and not only do you peel faster, but it's much safer. I accidentally threw out my peeler and had to go back to a regular swivel peeler, but now I can't stand it. I'm going back to Victorinox.

(More customer reviews)I love a good paring knife. A good paring knife is worth it's weight in gold to me. I have one that I always turn to when I want to do the job well, but I yearned for another sharper one. Well, this Christmas, I got my wish in the form of this set of Rada knives from my SIL. They are sharp and cut through potatoes with great ease.
I have only used them one time so far, but I am impressed. I washed both of them by hand, and hand dried them, putting them back in the original box. I'm not a fan of the handles, because I'm sure they won't stay as pretty as they are right now, but I'm hopeful that the blades will retain their original sharpness by keeping them in the box, and never putting them in the dishwasher.
I have bought countless paring knives over the years, and this one is the best I have ever used.

Fox Run Apple Peeling Machine with Suction Base Review

(More customer reviews)This peeler has a stirrup-shaped blade, and a round corer on the end. The suction pad works with a lever, which is a lot better than the clamp-on versions, which may not fit on your counters if they are extra thick.
If you want apples peeled and sliced, the corer/spiral cutter is pushed into the up position. The slices come out as a spiral and a single cut down the sliced apple makes for thin half-slices. Good for pies and for dried apples (which is what we got it for.) You can peel the apple and leave it whole, no coring, by swinging the corer down.
We noticed that the cutter has to be repositioned from time to time to ensure a proper paring of the fruit. You can also peel potatoes with this device, as long as they aren't too irregular in shape. This is handy if you have a lot of fruit to prepare, for example, holiday pies or orchard fruit being put down for apple pie filling to be canned, dried apples, or apple sauce if you aren't don't favor making yours with the skin on.

I've had one for years that finally gave out after I slammed the gadget drawer on it (you know, that draw filled with odds and ends). Anyway - wanted to give this little guy a good rating based on price point as well as how well it works for people with arthritis. The open handle makes it very easy to put your fingers through and pull vs the post handle grip types. Worth the shipping cost (which is 3x the item cost ;)

Zyliss Julienne Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)This product is good enough for home use or casual use. But, I find this product to be more work that is should be. I'm always cautious about using this one because, it's unpredictable. The edges are so sharp and it's kinda scary to slip and have it glide onto your hand. I bought another julienne peeler at my local "asian" marketplace made in japan and cost around 3 buck and kinda out preforms this one. The only catch is, is that, it make smaller julienne cuts that this one. The difference is that, the 3 dollar peeler has serrated blade which makes it more easier to glide to peel. Good enough but, take extreme care in using it.

This one zips right down the vegetable so you better be really careful with the edges of your palms. It's smaller than it appears and it's plastic, kind've hard to get a good grip on it but like I said, it's different. Doesn't mean it's bad. Hopefully it will last a while. :)

(More customer reviews)This peeler is very sharp! I have taken chunks of skin out on my fingers on several occasions. You must be very careful when using and slow down. I place peeler blades on item to be peeled (away from fingers), then pull to remove peel I would not recommend for children.
The Julienne Peeler works well, with no injuries to fingers.
I have not used slicing board yet.
