I have weak closing strength and pain in my hands which makes it hard to impossible to use the conventional rotating or moving blade type of peeler. This type is called a French peeler or fixed blade peeler and it works great by transferring the motion from thumb and fingers to the wrist and lower arm. Yes, it does take a little getting used to but once you master your own technique it's actually much faster and certainly less painful to use.
