(More customer reviews)I did not purchase this from Amazon. Big mistake. If I had I would have gotten a much better price! The peeler works well but the julienne peeler that comes with it works ok. You have to be careful. It does not work on everything! The teeth bend. I called Samurai and they do not return calls. By the way they (not Amazon, but Samurai) says they will 'throw in the julienne peeler for free' and you pay shipping and handling. Shipping and handling is almost $9.00 per piece! We paid s/h for two peelers that were shipped in the same box. Now remember this was not purchased from Amazon, and that was our first mistake!

World Kitchen/Ekco 1045559 Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this wonderful little peeler for at least a couple decades. I can't recall where I got it and it has no brand imprinted on it. It still works fine and is still very sharp. The problem is that it has become somewhat rusty and badly stained and looks bad with the other tools in the kitchen drawer. So, my wife and I were visiting our local Ace Hardware and noticed this Ekco Peeler. It was bright, shiny and new and we were delighted to find another to replace our aging peeler.
Our old peeler is almost identical to the new Ekco model, except in a few details. I'd say they probably came out of the same factory except that the old one has "Made in the USA" stamped on it. I threw away the new package, but I suspect it would have "Made in China" on it.
Well, fortunately, we didn't toss the old peeler. It's far superior to the new one. It's far sharper and will peel potatoes, carrots and what not all far faster and with less effort. Go figure. This new one is a little piece of junk compared with our old rusted and badly stained peeler. If we ever throw one away, it will be this Ekco model.

(More customer reviews)But usable. It's different in the fact that it's very small and as an American I am pretty much accustomed to the peelers that are turned to the side. This one zips right down the vegetable so you better be really careful with the edges of your palms. It's smaller than it appears and it's plastic, kind've hard to get a good grip on it but like I said, it's different. Doesn't mean it's bad. Hopefully it will last a while. :)

I thought the handle would be too cumbersome as I have small hands, but it's fine. I like the fact that it stands on a shelf so it won't get out of my site and get thrown in the compost like my previous one.
You can use either hand: the blade can be popped out and reversed for lefties (thank you T. Scimone for pointing this out to me).

I gave it 2 stars because the handle is comfortable and if I'm able to sharpen the blades myself, it might become a decent tool.

Kuhn Rikon Swiss Ceramic Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)I agree with the previous poster. I had my original Kuhn peeler for over 10 years. Despite it rusting in a few spots, the blade remained extremely sharp. The only reason I had to buy another was because this past Thanksgiving, I had relatives over and someone accidentally threw mine away while they were helping cleaning up the kitchen. I didn't notice it was gone until days later when I couldn't find it and the garbage man had already gone by.
I decided to give this one a try and found that although the blade appears to be sharp to the touch, it didnot peel like the original peeler. I had to make several passes over the same areas to peel and even then it didn't peel as well as I have liked. I haven't tried it on carrots or kiwis but definately don't plan on using once I get my new "original" style peeler I'll be ordering here instead. I'd like to order the stainless steel one but I'm reluctant now.

Note that it has a fixed head so you have to hold it at the right angle to peel, but when you do, it works perfectly. I used to use a knife to peel everything except carrots, but now use this as it's quick and easy. Can peel an apple in one piece, as with a knife, which I could never do with a swivel peeler. Very sharp blade. I use this all the time & love it.

(More customer reviews)Regarding the Swissmar Serrated Stainless Steel Peeler, this one is really a very special peeler, that I discovered by accident when I borrowed it from a family member. I have 4 vegetable peelers that look the same as this one, from a distance. Here is what this peeler does, that no other peeler will do the same: it peels the Kabocha squash! The kabocha squash is basically a Japanese pumpkin which is popular in Southern California around October & November each year. Check it out on-line to see pictures. It ain't a pretty squash; spotty, mottled, and uneven dark olive green peel which looks like the coral reef, but it is smooth and deep beautiful orange on the inside--and get this: when steamed, it can have the consistency of potatoes-- it's a favorite in my family. So back to the peeler, this particular peeler has a serrated knife, and its little teeth grasp onto the tough skin -- a task which all other standard peelers will not do. Just be very careful, because it is very sharp. Before I had this peeler, it took me about 1 hour to peel this pumpkin with a sharp knife, and that was dangerous business too. This peeler cut my job down to 2 minutes of work. Look, I really don't think that this peeler was designed to peel pumpkins, and I am probably testing its limits until it might break one day. Actually, it may very well be intended as a garnishing tool, but I am a practical man, and garnishing is not an everyday task for me.
But this peeler is one fine tool that will create ruffled slices for your garnishing pleasure, as well as easily peel all the vegetables, not just the ones with the tougher skin. Check out the kabocha squash at the market -- its skin is hard like a rock, but if you peel this green pumpkin, cut it up into big cubes, and put spices on it, and simply steam it till just right, you will discover a tasty vegetable (actally technically a fruit) that is an amazing side dish. And the Swissmar Serrated Peeler will allow you to attempt to peel it instead of leaving the skin on during the cooking process. The peeler knife is made of stainless steel, so what else can one ask for? Good luck, be very careful, and see if you are crazy enough to risk breaking a serrated peeler in order to cook some amazing pumpkin for dinner. I am crazy enough to do it, that is for sure. I was too lazy to take the subway for 10 minutes to target so I bought it online instead. Worst mistake ever. When it came (pretty fast shipping), the first thing I noticed was a piece of tape on the knife part of the peeler. Pretty good for safety purposes...but when I tried to take it off, it was impossible! ... I thought it would be one of those pieces of tape where you rip and the entire thing would just come off. I had to tear it off piece by piece. That was okay...
When I started to peel the apple, I realized that if I didn't use more strength...the peeler just slides over the apple and doesn't peel anything. When it finally starts peeling...the apple came off in CHUNKS. If it comes in chunks, I MIGHT AS WELL HAVE JUST USED A KNIFE.
Worthless crap piece of peeler. Don't ever get it.
