Egyptian Perennial Walking Onions A perennial onion! Plant them once and enjoy them forever. The established onion plant resembles a clump of perennial green scallions, offering an early harvest of very sweet scallions in spring, and small "pickling onion" topsets by summer. The flavor of this variety's scallion greens is very mild and the texture is juicy and very tender. Walking onions send up a flower stalk that sets numerous marble-sized bulbs at the top.
