(More customer reviews)I always wanted a mandoline but honestly, what I'd really just wanted was to make nice waffle fries and cottage fries. This little device works perfect! The first time I used it I had it figured out in 10 seconds. There was a very quick learning curve. I grabbed a large Idaho potato and quickly sliced a dozen "cottage" type fries (like an accordion or pleated shade). Then I tried the technique used to make "waffle" type fries in which you rotate the potato 90 degrees between slices (producing see-through fries, like a screen). They came out perfect! Once you master this, which will take 1 to 2 uses, you can slice 50-60 fries in about 2 minutes and fry them in about 3-4 minutes. A quick side dish your family will love. I assume it works just as well with cucumbers, radishes, carrots, etc.
Easy one piece clean-up! Takes 10 seconds to wash and rinse.
You will absolutely want the safety holder, sold separately! The blade is razor sharp and could easily take your finger tips off in a single sweep.
The only limitations are: 1) This is a single-purpose mandoline with a permanent, non-changeable blade. 2) Thickness is pre-set and cannot be adjusted. I felt my fries were a little thin but acceptable. Waffle fries cooked faster and crispier than the cottage style fries which came out a bit thicker.
