This is my favorite type of sugar snap pea. It grows fairly rapidly and needs a trellis or string/wire support to hold up the 4-6 foot vines. I use stakes with strong twine set at foot intervals and the vines "grab" the twine and are thereby held off the ground. They set flowers and then the pods form. Snap peas mature around 60 - 70 days. This variety continues to produce pea pods throughout the growing season until frost. The pods are about 3 inches long and are very sweet. They can be eaten raw, but I prefer to stir fry or blanch and then eat. Either way, they are a tasty treat.
I have found peas need consistent watering in order to grow to their potential. They do not like to get too parched, so I keep about an inch of water per week on the plants.
For anyone who likes snap peas, I'd also recommend snow peas. These are an absolute delight stir fried! I really like this one: Snow Peas Oregon Sugar Pod Certified Organic Seed
