(More customer reviews)I have one of these slicers that is forever old; I think it was my grandmother's, and this is what my mom had at home. We grew up on homemade french fries and fried potatoes, and scalloped potatoes. Now I make homemade chips. A lot of these new slicers have 14 parts and 7 different blades and it takes 8 minutes to get it out, and another 8 minutes to put it together. This is a small unit, and it rarely makes it to my cupboard; it is usually on the drying towel, handy from the last use. I bought this one as a gift for my friend who just loves to come and eat my homemade chips. I was ecstatic when I realized you could actually still buy these things, so I placed my order. When it came I set it aside to give to my friend when I saw her. Well, I didn't see her for a week or so and just thought, you know, I maybe better check that so I am not embarrassed when she opens it and it isn't right. It was new, in the box. I opened it and was checking it out, and when I went to adjust it I noticed that it was like, slanting to one side and I couldn't adjust it because it was in a bind. I don't know if something fell on the box (the box didn't look damaged) or what, but the whole thing kinda leaned to one side! Boy, was I glad I checked it out. I was just going to send it back, but thought maybe I could try to re-form it a bit - it is light gauge metal. So I tried bending it a little at a time to get it back "square" again. I don't think it is perfect, but it is much better and you can adjust it now, so that is how I left it. My friend gladly made some chips with it! Of course they say you can slice tomatoes and onions with it to, but we only ever used it for potatoes, so I cannot comment on that.
PROS: Very slick slicer, fast adjusting, easy clean, inexpensive, small footprint for storing, one-piece design.
CONS: Don't think that they are made as well as the older ones like mine, but, I guess, what is these days?
I think for the price it is a good product, I would recommend it, and I think my friend will get lots of sliced chips off of hers and appreciate it.
