Black Japanese Futsu Squash 10 Seeds/Seed-Rare Heirloom Review

Black Japanese Futsu Squash 10 Seeds/Seed-Rare Heirloom
Average Reviews:

First planting I had less than 40% germination, none survived transplantation. Bought more seeds, tried direct planting in the garden. Nothing grew. When I called, I was told they had an 80% germination rate when they planted them. I would never try these again.

Rare, black Japanese squash, the fruit is flattened, round and has heavy ribbing. Very unique and beautiful. The black fruit will turn a rich chestnut color in storage. Flesh is golden color and has the rich taste of hazelnuts. Can be eaten as puree or roasted. Can be stored for an extraordinarily long time if well ripened in autumn. Fruits are 3-8 lbs. each and vines give huge yields. Popular with European market growers. Good insect resistance. From direct sowing: 110-120 days. Heirloom variety originally from Japan

Hmong Red Cucumber - 10 Seeds Review

Hmong Red Cucumber - 10 Seeds
Average Reviews:

The photographic depiction is a bit misleading as the fruits are white to pale green, turning golden-orange as they ripen. A very productive and pleasantly flavored cultivar that stays mild even when large. The fruit seems to appear out of nowhere from spaces that seemed empty the previous day; providing a continuous source of enjoyment and garden amazement.
The heirloom seed I purchased (not from this vendor) was collected from a Hmong (Meo) immigrant and is also available from large, widely respected seed vendors. Millions of the Hmong tribe live on the borders of Thailand, China, Burma, Laos and Vietnam and are a very ancient people.
This cultivar is a garden novelty for those fortunate to have the space required for a large selection of heirloom vegetables. It would not be my first selection, or recommendation for those limited by their space to only one Cucumis sativus.

GOURD: Plant gourds if for no other reason than because they're fun! They come in a delightful, wacky array of shapes, colors, and sizes and are sure to bring a smile when you harvest them. Many will grow up fences and trellises, which makes them even more interesting and dramatic.
Snake Gourd: Grow your own slippery snake! These unusual, light green, narrow gourds are fun and easy to grow, and can be dried and then painted however you like, stripes, spots, stars, whatever! Makes an attractive trailing plant, too!

Lunar White Carrot 100 Seeds - Tender,Coreless,Sweet Review

Lunar White Carrot 100 Seeds - Tender,Coreless,Sweet

What nonsense in the previous review. And a false premise, too; to judge a carrot's "goodness" and "naturalness" by its colour can be misleading, as the *original* orange carrot was an artificial product of selective breeding developed just a few centuries ago, for one of the most important political families of the day - the House of Orange. (Carrots actually come originally from the middle east, in a variety of colours including cream, yellow, red and purple).
I am absolutely delighted to find Kuttiger here, after my previous stockist ceased holding it. I encountered it the first year I built raised veg beds, and it remains my favourite in terms of flavour and hardiness. I also appreciate the novelty - if I choose to grow a vegetable rather than buy it at the market, it had better excel in as many categories as possible!
Kuttiger is a heritage variety that was considered a delicacy in mainland Europe in the 17th century - deservedly so, in my opinion. Taste when cooked is fairly ordinary, though less sweet than some of the more common varieties. However, raw Kuttiger has real depth of flavour, a little "carrot-toppy", with hints of celery and parsnip. Texture is firmer than the common orange carrot, though not woody like parsnips.
The short, thick root makes this plant hardy in times of drought, and bolting resistance is good (though a bite on a bolted raw root will hurt your teeth!). Finally, seed longevity is excellent - not a one of my brand new packet of "purple haze" sprouted last year; but the remnants of my kuttiger stock, a stray packet open 3 years and kept in unsympathetic conditions, all took well in my sandy soil right next to the defunct "hazes".
Not the primary choice if you're the type who's prepared to slave for maximum sweetness: but brilliant if you want something different, tasty...and a reliable "side bet" in case the weather gets your pet crop!

Vigorous variety producing creamy white roots. Tender, almost coreless. Sweet flavor. White carrots have been sold in European markets for 300 years or more. Mild in flavor, this true white variety is quite a delicacy. Excellent long storage ability. 55 days to maturity.

I ordered this last season and grew it out and it turned out to be dinosaur kale - a much less expensive seed and much more common vegetable. Bait and Switch? By the end of the gardening season, I was too busy and too tired to seek a refund for lousey seeds. Buyer beware on these seeds!

Broccoli Romanesco Native to Italy, this relative of the broccoli and cauliflower family grows as a lime green colored head having an appearance somewhat similar to cauliflower except for the cone-shaped florets that swirl upward forming peaks. Also referred to as romanesca or cauliflower romanesco, the Broccoli Romanesco provides a nice nutty texture and a flavor that is delicious either eaten raw or when added to salads. In addition, the Broccoli Romanesco can be steamed and made into a flavorful vegetable dish. Better taste and texture than the finest broccoli.

My children and I ordered a selection of really fun seeds from you. (Hmong Red Cucumber
Black Sea Man Tomato, Rare Tigger Melon, Mexican Miniature Watermelon, Toga Striped Eggplant, Purple Cauliflower, Unwins Exhibiton 7 Pound Onion, Rare Red Bull Brussels Sprout)
My germination rate has been about 25% or less. All my other seeds from other companies are doing wonderful on my tables, but my Hirt's seeds are in a category of their own, small, stunted, wimpy, or not at all. I will not be ordering from you again, and I'm sorry I wasted my money.

The appearance of PURPLE CAULIFLOWER is truly breathtaking. This Graffiti variety is the first PURPLE CAULIFLOWER of its size that actually retains its color when cooked. Wonderful when stir fried with garlic and ginger, GRAFFITI PURPLE CAULIFLOWER is at its best wehn quickly blanched, shocked with ice water and served as the show-stopping element in a cruidite platter. This lovely cauliflower would also make great pickles, since an acidic environment will help maintain the purple color. 80 days. Cauliflower is recommended for a "Low Carb" diet! Purple Cauliflower resulted from the discovery of a purpled coloured spontaneous mutant plant in a cauliflower field in the late eighties, and years of dedicated classical breeding at the research station "Danefeld" in Denmark. Purple Cauliflower is based on a very stable source of colour formation without the problems of previous varieties. It has been tested in many temperate and subtropical areas and proved itself to be adaptable and productive. The purple colour is due to formation of anthocyanins also found in red cabbage and in red wine. The Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences has carried out analyses showing that Purple Cauliflower contains approximately 200 times more anthocyanin than a white cauliflower exhibiting "pinking" but with exactly the same substances. Some scientists believe that anthocyanins are actually healthy compounds belonging to the group of phenolic antioxidants. Actually this is the reason why many doctors recommend drinking a glass of red wine every day....

Purple Dragon Carrot 350 Seeds - Absolutely unique Review

Purple Dragon Carrot 350 Seeds - Absolutely unique

First off, nothing I have purchased from Hirts has produced anything like the pictures, I'm positive they turn the saturation way up on the photos for showmanship. Despite my carrots not looking very much like the photo they were not a disappointment & the seeds came with instructions good enough for a novice planter. I did dock a star or two since what I saw in the photo and what I got were the most different of anything Ive gotten from this seller. In fact I wonder if my pack had atomic red carrots by mistake.
In the Rocky Mountain region around 30% of my seeds sprouted but this was my first time planting carrots. The carrots that resulted were more of a beet red than a purple, making them look like long bright beets. The colored flesh is only a millimeter deep, meaning only a scratch reveals the orange inside. The shape of the carrot was rather normal instead of tubular like online. The flavor was more earthy than a commercial carrot. I still recommend them, the shock value is there and they were great for coloring up sushi, salads, and steaming them takes out any bitterness.

Absolutely unique, purple-skinned carrots with deep orange flesh. They look amazing in salads or as a steamed vegetable. Roots have a high antioxidant and vitamin content, so are best eaten raw and are perfect for making carrot juice.
