First planting I had less than 40% germination, none survived transplantation. Bought more seeds, tried direct planting in the garden. Nothing grew. When I called, I was told they had an 80% germination rate when they planted them. I would never try these again.

Rare, black Japanese squash, the fruit is flattened, round and has heavy ribbing. Very unique and beautiful. The black fruit will turn a rich chestnut color in storage. Flesh is golden color and has the rich taste of hazelnuts. Can be eaten as puree or roasted. Can be stored for an extraordinarily long time if well ripened in autumn. Fruits are 3-8 lbs. each and vines give huge yields. Popular with European market growers. Good insect resistance. From direct sowing: 110-120 days. Heirloom variety originally from Japan
