While reading a garden magazine, I was surprised to learn that the "Foxy" Foxglove is a perennial. Most foxgloves are biennial; that means they grow a bunch of leaves one year and then bloom the next year. I managed to purchase, out of my smaller-than-I-wish garden budget, one one-year-old foxglove for the memorial garden for my dead daughter, but although it was supposed to bloom in the spring it didn't actually bloom until October, just in time for the first snowstorm. It has lost some of its glovelets, but most of it is still standing straight, proud, and blooming, the only thing other than the yarrow, which you'd need a shotgun to kill, that is still blooming now.
I'll start it indoors over the winter, and hope to see it blooming at least by midsummer. But the reviews I've read of it in garden magazines have been uniformly very positive, so I expect it to do very well.
