(More customer reviews)I agree with some of the other posts. It is a good idea, but not entirely foolproof. First, fresh garlic does not last forever - every week or so, toss out unused garlic, clean with at least some hot water, and re-fill with fresh cloves. Second, the comments about odor are correct. However, there are a couple ways to overcome this: One, wipe it off with a paper towel after every use. It only takes a second. Two, store it in a gallon-size ziploc bag in the fridge. It take no more effort and space to do this. If you want to go a step further, put a little baking soda in the bag. These are effortless solutions that take maybe 90% of odors. I also keep it in the egg compartment in the door (since, ironically, it is the worst place to store eggs) as an additional barrier and quick access.
For me, it does not take the place of freshly prepared garlic in nice dishes -- but it works very well for a quick addition of nearly-fresh garlic. I recommend it if you use garlic frequently, or would but for the trouble. If you buy the minced garlic in jars, you'll get your money back in a few months by using this and buy heads of garlic.

(More customer reviews)Minces garlic in seconds and your fingers don't get all garlicky. I love it. I had the regular size and by accident, I threw away the blade/chopper with the food scrap. So I decided to upgrade to the XL, and I like the XL better. With the regular, I had to cut a garlic clove in half for it to chop more easily and quickly (unless the clove was small, then I wouldn't have to halve it first). With the XL, I can put the whole clove in, even put 2 cloves (3 would be hard) and it chops easily. The XL also has more blades and thus chops faster than the regular. I've gotten used to cleaning it now. In the beginning, I did think it was a little annoying, though well worth the time saved by not mincing by hand. The XL is easier to clean because it's bigger. And now I am careful not to put the blades near my food scrap.

(More customer reviews)We use a lot of garlic on a daily basis in most of our dinners. This was a cute gadget we got for a gift, and I was curious to see if it worked better then my other garlic chopping methods.
For a REALLY big lot of garlic, I use my Ninja Food Master Prep. Otherwise for everyday cooking, depending on the size I need the garlic, I will either use a microplane which is fast and efficient, or a good sharp knife. I personally like to do chopping and prep work, so I didn't neccessarily need a "garlic gadget".
While this item works fine, it only does a couple cloves at a time, and seems like a total pain to scrap out over and over. If it was larger, it would make sense. It might be a nice accessory to have for someone who only likes a hint of gasrlic, but for the garlic lover, look elsewhere.

MIU Matte Stainless-Steel Garlic Press with Two Gauge Heads Review

(More customer reviews)I can't complain too much. I guess it's pretty good for the price and it is stainless steel.
The handles are hard plastic & a bit narrow. I have tiny slender hands & they don't hurt me.
The ability to interchange the gauge heads is nice. It also makes it easier to clean.
My peeves are the garlic likes to squeeze out through the sides. I guess the plastic pusher isn't flush enough with the head. The plastic pusher is another peeve. I don't like plastic being in contact with my food. It is hard plastic in case you were wondering. Last, if you are not careful, the head can fall out while you are using it.
I don't regret buying this because it wasn't expensive & I think it will last a long time. It isn't all bad. If I spent a lot of cash on it, I would be pretty darn pissed.
If you don't want to spend a lot on a garlic press, want stainless steel, & don't want to have a hard time cleaning it, then you might think this is worth it over the pricier models.

(More customer reviews)I use a lot of garlic in my cooking and have never found a garlic press that was worth the trouble until now. This was a gift and the person who gave it to me has one and raved about it. He was right. It's ratcheted mechanism allows it to easily press 5 cloves at a time with complete ease. It releases by pushing back on the handle. It has gotten stuck a few times, but a little pull on the lift mechanism releases it. It says to pull out the screen to clean it, but with my kitchen brush I don't even need to as I just brush it and put the whole thing in the dishwasher and it comes out completely clean. I also like that it has a substantial high quality feel. I love this product, would recommend it to anyone and plan to buy some for gifts for my foodie friends. I don't mind paying a little more for a quality product that I think will last.

Rösle 12782 Garlic Press Review

(More customer reviews)There's no doubt that the Rosle is extremely good--in fact, I would have given it five stars just a few weeks ago. But then I purchased the Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Garlic Press (#2315), after reading a recent review of it in Cook's Illustrated. After repeatedly comparing the two side-by-side, the Kuhn is unquestionably the better press. It's also about $8 cheaper here on Amazon, but that's just a bonus--I didn't consider price for this review.
What's strange is that the crushing mechanisms appear to be identical. In fact, prior to crushing with the Kuhn, I felt disappointed when I received it, convinced that I had just bought the same garlic press twice. However, for whatever reason (and it remains a mystery to me), the Kuhn's crushing of garlic is clearly superior in two ways: 1) It produces a more beautifully consistent mince of the garlic, whereas the result from the Rosle seems more "smashed" by comparison. The difference isn't subtle--I was honestly shocked by it. 2) The pressing is more complete, with less left behind in the hopper, and it presses unpeeled garlic better, as well. (That said, I get a much better press from either unit with peeled cloves.)
Ergonomically, the shape of the Kuhn also handles better, although I never had a problem with the Rosle. And I'd say both units have stainless steel construction of equally high quality. For me, it was the crushing performance and not the handling that has sadly relegated my Rosle to the drawer, since I now always reach first for the Kuhn.

Kuhn Rikon Easy-Squeeze Garlic Press Review

(More customer reviews)I owe the Kuhn Epicurean all-stainless garlic press and love it. My mother was visiting recently and was impressed with it, but found it a bit hard to squeeze and thought it was better suited to a larger hand. My 12-year old daughter, who likes to cook, made the same remark.
I wanted to give my mother a garlic press, and thus, this "Easy-Squeeze" unit seemed ideal. However, we found it no easier to squeeze than the Epicurean. Furthermore, the red handles are plastic and not as brightly colored or shiny as the online image suggests. The press has a flimsy or squishly feeling relative to the Epicurean. As we're squeezing, you can feel the handles bend, as well as wobble slightly side-to-side.
It still presses garlic beautifully. The actual pressing mechanism and screen are made of the same high-quality stainless steel as in the Epicurean. It is just as easy to clean.
For the price ($19.95 vs. $39.95), this easy-squeeze unit may be a good deal, but we much prefer the heft and solid feeling of the Epicurean. We feel like the Epicurean will last a lifetime and don't mind spending the extra money. However, with the easy-squeeze, the question for me is not IF it will fail, but WHEN?
We've only used it one day, so maybe I'm worrying about something that will never happen. However, I intend to return this press and give my mother the Epicurean instead.

The well for the garlic is very large, accommodating more than one garlic clove at a time. (More customer reviews)This garlic press looks good on paper. With its interchangeable plates, you can adjust the size of the pressed garlic - a great idea. But this contraption is so big and cumbersome, it's a mess to use. Not to mention the fact that it's just too easy to pinch your fingers between the handles as you press down - foolish design. So while this sure looks good sitting in the drawer, it's not a practical kitchen tool, and I'd suggest sticking to Oxo or Zyliss or another tried-and-true design.

Alligator AG2 The Mini Cutter Review

(More customer reviews)I've used one of these for a couple of years and find the tiny dice essential for garlic and other things as well. I have other garlic tools, but this is my favorite because it is easy to clean and the results are so consistent. None of the other dicers on the market have this fine a grid, so it's the best choice for things you want in really small pieces. I use mine for garlic frequently, but also for pickles or olives I'm adding to a salad, radishes that are especially tangy, herbs and sometimes small onions or shallots when I want the small dice.
The unit is small so the item placed on the grid has to be small, but the dice is beautiful and exactly right for tuna salad, for example, where you want small pieces of things. I still use the bigger sized unit for the celery I add to the tuna salad, and in fact often use both units for most preparations since the tiny pieces of garlic are ideal even if I want the bigger dice for other things.
I never put either of mine in the dishwasher because they are so easy to clean under the faucet and have ready for the next concoction. The little grid that fits down over the `teeth' is by far the easiest solution for removing any embedded pieces. I highly recommend this gadget for its ease of use and reliable results--the perfect fine dice.

Swing the handles back fully the other way and self clean.Rinse with hot water and put it away to dry.I'm a big guy with the hands of a dairy farmer and every garlic press I touched turned into twisted metal and popped rivets until I found this one well over ten years ago. Over the years I would regularly pick up a few at a local retail outlet and give them as gifts to my ham fisted friends. When I spotted them on Amazon, I ordered 3 and was thrilled because I no longer live where I can shop that old retail outlet.I will continue to buy several new ones each year and pass them out to my new friends and acquaintances. I have never heard back from anyone I have given one of these that it had to be retired for any reason and my original still looks and works like new.One consideration might be that if you fill it up full, a smaller female hand may not have the breadth of grip to get a good hold of it and they may have to put a clove or two fewer inside to be comfortable or develop a two handed technique.
