(More customer reviews)I have used this sonic cleaner on several batches of fruit now. I used to work in a lab that had a sonic cleaner. I LOVED that thing- it was amazingly effective. That's why I splurged and bought this produce cleaner. I was disappointed to find that this unit is not making a visible difference on the produce that I've washed in it (regardless of how long I set it for)- either home grown or store bought. The apples out of the orchard were still grimey and needed to be cleaned after using this. The apples, plums, and nectarines from the store left no visible residue in the unit's wash water after the cycle. Grapes did leave some dirt behind. I haven't tried greens yet. The customer service was responsive- but it didn't seem like the person answering the phone knew much about this product. (I bought it off amazon) He thought I was strange to question whether it was working. Sure it bubbles, whines and buzzes- but is it really removing more pesticides than a soaking would? He suggested that I taste the produce before and after the cleaning process. My daughter said she could taste a difference- but I didn't. If you are really concerned with pesticides- You'll just have to trust that it's getting rid of them. You won't know if you need to double the cycle to clean it- you're left guessing that it's doing something. I also tried washing my jewelry with this on the dish cycle. This unit heated the water and made noises for 30 minutes, but my jewelry looked no different when I removed it. The lab sonicator used to get my rings sparkling clean in 10 minutes. Maybe it doesn't have that kind of power because that would bruise the produce? I would be reassured if the company would post detailed information on 3rd party testing of various produce pesticides before and after cleaning along with more detailed instructions on using the various cleaning cycles. I did find some data on bacteria levels before and after. As other reviewers of these units have noted: if you use the ozone feature, make sure that the unit is in a well-ventilated area, and don't stand over it watching it. Ozone is not good for your lungs.
